BB Series Pressure Regulator to be Discontinued

New Pressure Regulator Introduced as a Replacement for BB Series

BB1 Electro-pneumatic Pressure Control ValveThis publication announces the discontinuance of the BB series proportional regulator by Proportion-Air, Inc. and introduces the replacement product.

On September 30, 1985 the BB series electro-pneumatic proportional pressure regulator was born. It was the first closed-loop two valve and sensor electro-pneumatic proportional regulator on the market. Having a built in downstream pressure transducer and being a device that did the loop closing on board eliminated the need for extra pressure transducers and PID loop tuning: it was all done within the BB unit.

Along with being closed loop, Proportion-Air also offered the BB as a dual closed loop pressure controller. It took feedback from an external pressure transducer and was able to compensate for the inaccuracies of an air piloted regulator. A monitor output was optional to use for data acquisition, and the product had a repeatability spec of +/-0.02% and an accuracy of +/- 0.2% of full scale calibration.

The new QBX takes the place of the dated BB series 30 years later. The QBX offers a more modern control package in a smaller foot print with the same accuracy and repeatability as the BB series. The monitor output is no longer an option—it’s standard. The circuit board uses more modern surface mount technology. The circuit board uses the QB series technology, proven over the past 18 years.

The QBX offers vertical mounting as shown in the photo left or horizontal mounting by plugging the work port at the bottom of the can and opening the side work port.

Pricing for the QBX is slightly less than the equivalent BB unit. The same connector and wiring is available on the QBX as with the BB. The unit comes standard with a Hirshmann 6-pin DIN-style connector.

Three-dimensional (3-D) drawings of the QBX unit are available to make change over more seamless.

Orders for the BB series will be taken through August 31, 2014. The product will be supported in the repair department until October 1, 2015.
